Dysport® vs. BOTOX® Cosmetic
Cosmetic injectables are among the most sought-after non-surgical treatments in the world of aesthetic enhancement. This includes both hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers and botulinum toxin-based wrinkle relaxers like BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®. The latter two injectables are used to target dynamic wrinkles, which are caused by repetitive facial movements. The botulinum toxin in their solutions can temporarily relax the muscles that cause these wrinkles, reducing their severity and discouraging further contraction. What’s more, when administered by a qualified medical professional, both BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® can produce a more youthful, refreshed effect after just a few brief sessions.
While these injectables share the same active protein, their supporting proteins are not identical; as such, one may better suit a patient’s needs than the other.* At Pinsky Plastic Surgery, Dr. Mark Pinsky is a nationally-certified BOTOX® Cosmetic injection trainer. Those wondering whether BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® is better for their unique needs can explore the comparisons drawn below.
BOTOX® Cosmetic – the most popular non-surgical procedure performed worldwide – is administered to address a variety of dynamic wrinkles, such as crows’ feet, bunny lines, smile lines, and frown (glabellar) lines. BOTOX® Cosmetic is meticulously applied to the treatment area in a fifteen-minute session. Patients are typically able to see the effects of the injections within a week, and results last for approximately three to four months.
Meanwhile, Dysport® is often applied to reduce glabellar lines, which appear within the stretch of forehead between the eyebrows; however, physicians also apply Dysport® to dynamic wrinkles elsewhere on the face. Much like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport® is generally applied in a very short session, and its effects typically become fully visible after a week and last about three to four months.
Sometimes both BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are used at the same time of treatment, but in different areas of the face, leveraging each product’s unique differences.
