Surgical Neck Contouring with Liposuction

Excess fat under the chin is a common cosmetic concern for men and women alike. Fortunately, there are several options available, both surgical and non-surgical, that can create a more contoured profile. Individuals with a full or “double” chin caused solely by excess fat may find neck contouring with liposuction to be an effective surgical solution for achieving their aesthetic goals.

Candidates for Neck Liposuction

It is important to undergo a consultation with our board certified plastic surgeon, Mark Pinsky, MD, to determine the best neck contouring option for your unique anatomy. There are a number of factors that can result in the appearance of a double chin and it is vital to understand the causes before the right surgical solution can be applied. For the best results with liposuction, patients must exhibit good skin elasticity. If excess drooping skin, deep neck fat, or lax musculature is a problem, Dr. Pinsky may instead suggest a neck lift or lower face lift to remove loose skin, smooth the remaining skin, and/or tighten neck muscles.

The Neck Liposuction Procedure

Liposuction of the neck can be performed through one or several small incisions, which can be effectively hidden from view. During the procedure, targeted superficial fat deposits will be suctioned away with a special surgical cannula. The goal of neck liposuction is to remove all excess fat smoothly and evenly, resulting in a beautiful new profile and reduction in the appearance of a double chin.

Results of Neck Contouring with Liposuction

Liposuction removes the fat cells and can provide long-lasting results with proper weight maintenance over time. This procedure can ultimately create a more contoured neckline and an enhanced overall facial profile.
