62% of American Women prefer Silicone Breast Implants
In the past couple of years, breast augmentation remains are one of the top five most sought after cosmetic procedures in the United States. A good number of women go for this procedure to correct breast sagging after pregnancy and childbirth. Others have this procedure to correct their breast size and make it proportionate with the rest of their body. According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), out of the 318,123 women who underwent breast augmentation surgery last year, 62 percent prefer silicone breast implants over saline breast implants.
Reasons why more women prefer silicone breast implants
A lot of women go for silicone gel breast implants both for aesthetic and health reasons. Unlike saline implants that are filled with liquid, silicone breast implants are filled with gooey fluids that closely resemble human fats. The sticky silicone gel has more consistent shape as compared to saline solution. As it is, properly placed silicone breast implants can make the breasts look shapelier and feel firmer for a long time.
Both saline breast implants and silicone gel implants are safe to use and they do not pose long term health hazards even when the shell of the implant ruptures. However, women who are very concerned with their health prefer to have silicone gel implants because the gel inside the implant does not easily escape from its casing even when the shell ruptures.
