Do not take chances with your life: make sure that your cosmetic surgeon is board certified!

Dinora Rodriguez merely wanted to fix her breast implant but she woke up after the procedure, she found herself with one huge ugly looking mound in front of her instead of two shapely boobs. Aside from giving her a uniboob, her doctor also nipped and tucked her eyelids to the point that she can hardly close her eyes! Belatedly, Dinora found out that her doctor was not accredited or certified to practice as plastic surgeon by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Dinora is not the only person who has fallen victim of “white coat deception”. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) warns that a good number of doctors who are not qualified to practice as plastic surgeons are now performing cosmetic procedures. These doctors are not certified by the ASPS but are issued license to practice as plastic surgeons in their states. Note that at present, non-board certified surgeons can legally perform cosmetic procedures in 48 states in the United States so regulations are rather loose in these areas.

Because non-board certified physicians are not bound by the strict rules and regulations of the ASPS in terms of education and training, many non-board certified doctors do not have the right skills to perform cosmetic surgery. As it is, many of these surgeons commit blunders that leave their patients looking hideous instead of beautiful.

Avoiding The “White Coat Deception”

Just because a physician has a white coat that does not mean that he or she is qualified to perform cosmetic procedures. To avoid being a victim of “white coat deception”, the ASPS strongly recommends that you vet your doctor properly.

Below are some very important questions that you need to ask your doctor during your first visit to his or her clinic:

  • Are you certified by the ASPS to perform cosmetic surgery?
  • How long have you been practicing your profession?
  • Can you show me the before and after pictures of your previous patients?
  • Can you give me the telephone numbers of at least 5 of your patients so that I can call them to ask if they were satisfied with your service?

Cosmetic surgery is a serious business that is why at Pinsky Plastic Surgery, we only hire the best board certified cosmetic surgeons. To know more about our company and our services, give us a call or email us now.
